2025’s Top 5 Fashion and Beauty Trends
By Alayah Brantley and Mason M.
2025 marks the beginning of a new year of trend cycles. It is always exciting to anticipate the main trends in fashion and beauty for the upcoming year. In 2024, we saw the resurgence of the early 2000s, from capris to metallic makeup. Fashion in 2024 was all about nostalgia for the 2000s. As we look forward to the new year, we can expect fresh ways of reinterpreting older trends. With statement jewelry, sustainability, and retro wear, 2025 seems promising for the world of fashion and beauty.
Trend 1: Clothing
As we enter a new year, it’s time to revamp the closet as usual. The early 2020s were all about neutrals, andwhile the Skims influence is still present, expect to see different twists in the mix. Textures and metallics will make a splash this spring, along with layering. Keeping it simple with blue jeans and a white tee? Shake it up by adding a fur accessory, or layer with a textured jacket. Spice up you neutrals with bold neutrals: a lively new take on neutrals that can still compliment your beiges. Deep forest greens, aubergine purples, and bloody maroons can be the perfect compliment to make you stand out against a sea of sandy browns, especially in the office.Throw on an emerald green statement blouse instead of your typical white-collar to breathe new life into your office look, or you can try a merlot-inspired red heel instead of the standard black leather pump. Neutrals don’t have to be boring, and neither does your office wardrobe.
Trend 2: Statement Accessories
Statement accessories are high on our list of fashion trends for2025.The bigger the bag-the better. This whimsical take on bags has been seen with many flagship brands like Coach, Jil Sanders, and Stella McCartney, so update your wardrobe with a bag that’s both functional and fashionable. Who wouldn’t want a little extra legroom? While neutrals have always reigned supreme, expect to see lots of beads, bangles, and tassels next year. Making noise and making statements is the move, and pairing these bold accessories with your neutrals can add a little bit of punch to your look. Belts and brooches can also add a little bit of sparkle to a dull look.Big, bold accessories can easily get out of hand if not balanced, so tread lightly when it comes to hair and makeup. Consider keeping it simple with a clean-girl makeup routine that prioritizes minimal makeup and functionality, further complimenting your neutrals without overpowering your statement pieces. Consider the Godefroy Beauty Instant Eyebrow Tint to shorten your daily makeup routine while simultaneously framing the face in a way that compliments your entire look.
Trend 3: Shoes
As for shoes, count on seeing wedges, clogs, and pumps walking the runway. The y2k trend that took over last year has burned out for the most part, but you can see clear influences in the boho-chic clog push that has slowly crept up with brands like Uggs and Crocs. This can also be seen in the Bratz-esque subversive wedges that have recently made a splash, much like the ones from Guiseppe Zanotti.
Trend 4: Sustainable Beauty and Fashion
The fashion industry is the leading manufacturer of waste worldwide. There is no debating the wasteful nature of consumerism. Research has shown that the average lifespan of a fashion trend is getting shorter and shorter. Media is highly responsible for the way that fashion trends are popularized, and then ultimately mainstreamed leasing to the search for another unique trend. As a result, Fast Fashion companies utilize the trend cycle to manufacture and make a profit of whatever item is trending. This leads to an excessive amount of textile and production waste further polluting our ecosystems.
Optimistically, there are many companies and non-profits whose mission is to make fashion more sustainable. Thrifting has become a popular avenue for people to find trendy or vintage clothing. ‘Thrift with me’ style videos are popular on social media, where influencers take the viewer along with them to the thrift or consignment stores and later give a haul of what they found. Some companies are also using older fabrics and textiles to make new clothing items. This is a great way to use fabrics that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
In the beauty market, manufacturers are shifting to organic and natural ingredients in products instead of synthetic and manufacturing ones that can cause a lot of waste. Many serums and skincare products feature organic and naturally derived ingredients like castor oil, or vitamin e. Other companies have found ways to reuse packaging or reduce the amount of packaging used in creating their products.

Trend 5: Retro Revival
In recent trend cycles, we’ve seen homages to the '80s and '90s. For 2025, fashion experts predict it’s now the '70s’ turn to dominate. With flared pants making a comeback and a growing emphasis on western wear, the '70s are returning in fresh, modern ways. Celebrities like Beyoncé, Bella Hadid, and various other artists have incorporated country and western elements into their art and personal styles. This shift has fueled the ongoing popularity of western-inspired fashion, which is set to remain a strong trend in 2025.
So, how do the '70s tie into this resurgence? The '70s marked the first reinterpretation of western wear outside its practical use. Cowboy boots, fringe, leather, and belt buckles were integrated into everyday fashion, blending function with style. The modern take on this trend combines western elements with contemporary clothing. For example, cowboy boots are now styled with boxer shorts or miniskirts for a look that’s both effortless and trendy.
Another trend we’ll see plenty of in 2025 is the return of early 2000s prints and silhouettes. Polka dots and stripes are predicted to be the standout prints of the year. Additionally, color combinations popular in the early 2000s, such as brown and pink, teal and black, and green and pink, will make a big comeback. In terms of silhouettes, low-rise jeans, capris, and longer tops are expected to continue gaining mainstream appeal.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the fashion and beauty industries are undergoing significant shifts, influenced by both the challenges of sustainability and the cyclical nature of trends. While fast fashion continues to exacerbate waste and environmental damage, there is a growing awareness and effort to make these industries more sustainable. Practices like thrifting, upcycling, and using organic ingredients highlight the potential for positive change. Additionally, the resurgence of retro styles, such as the '70s western-inspired looks and early 2000s prints and silhouettes, demonstrates how the past continues to shape modern fashion in innovative ways. By balancing trend-driven creativity with sustainable practices, the future of fashion and beauty can move toward a more environmentally conscious and stylish direction.
